FAQs

What is the difference between Axminster and Wilton carpet?

Both are woven on a loom. Axminster weaves cut pile tufts into the backing as the pattern forms, so it suits multi-coloured designs. Wilton uses continuous yarns, giving plain or tonal velvets and textured loops.

Why is woven carpet more expensive?

The loom process is slower and the wool content is higher. In return you get a denser pile that keeps its appearance for 20 years or more in the right room.

Is 80/20 wool-nylon better than pure wool?

The 20% nylon adds abrasion resistance without losing the look and feel of wool, which is why it is the hospitality standard.

Can you do a patterned stair runner?

Yes. Axminster runners with borders are a classic choice for period staircases. We measure and fit them with proper nosings.

How long does a woven carpet order take?

Allow six to ten weeks for made-to-order designs. Some plain Wiltons are available faster; we confirm when we quote.
