Why blockout curtains

Coated, triple-weave or lined

Coated blockout fabrics have an acrylic backing that stops light completely. Triple-weave fabrics use a black yarn woven between two face layers and feel softer. Any face fabric from our curtain fabrics range can also be made blockout with a blockout lining. For the darkest bedroom combine a blockout curtain with a blockout blind inside the reveal.

FAQs

Do blockout curtains block all light?

The fabric does. Light can enter above the track and at the sides; a pelmet, a wrap-around track and generous overlap past the frame deal with it.

Are blockout curtains hot in summer?

The opposite – they stop solar heat reaching the room. Light colours reflect more heat than dark ones.

Can blockout curtains be sheer-looking?

No – blockout fabrics are opaque. For a soft look use a sheer on a double track in front of the blockout.

Can I wash blockout curtains?

Coated blockouts should be dry cleaned or spot cleaned; machine washing can crack the coating. Triple-weave fabrics can usually be gently washed.

Do blockout curtains help with noise?

Heavy, lined blockout curtains noticeably reduce traffic and neighbour noise coming through glass.
