What to expect

Polypropylene is a firmer fibre than nylon or wool and can flatten in heavy traffic lanes over time, which is why we offer it in loop pile only. For an owner-occupied family home we usually suggest nylon or triexta; for a rental or a budget-limited renovation polypropylene is the sensible spend.

Is polypropylene carpet any good?

For rentals, granny flats and budget renovations it is excellent value: stain resistant, colourfast and cheap to replace. It is less resilient than nylon, so it is sold in loop pile for durability.

Can polypropylene carpet be cleaned with bleach?

Yes – diluted bleach will not affect the colour, which makes end-of-lease cleaning easy.

Is it suitable for bedrooms?

Yes. It is firmer than a plush nylon, but perfectly comfortable for bedrooms and living areas in a rental.

Does polypropylene carpet melt?

Like all synthetics it can scorch under a dropped iron or ember. Keep it away from open fireplaces.

How quickly can you carpet a rental?

Polypropylene ranges are stocked, so most rental jobs are measured, quoted and installed within one to two weeks.
