Large rugs for living rooms and king bedrooms

Large rugs run 190–240 cm wide and 280–300 cm long: 200 x 290, 200 x 300, 190 x 280 and 240 x 240 cm rounds. It is the size we recommend most for a standard living room, because it lets the sofa and armchairs sit on the rug and visually ties the seating area together.

Where large rugs work

  • Living rooms – 200 x 290 cm with the front legs of a three-seater and two armchairs on the rug.
  • King bedrooms – 200 x 290 cm under the bed with 60 cm showing each side.
  • Six-seat dining tables – 200 x 290 cm keeps the chairs on the rug when pulled out.
  • Open-plan zones – defines the lounge area in a combined living and dining space.

For a room with a modular or L-shaped sofa, or a dining table seating eight, look at our extra large rugs.

How to measure for a rug

Measure the floor area you want the rug to cover, then check the furniture: in a living room the rug should sit under at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs; in a dining room it should extend 60–70 cm beyond the table on every side so chairs stay on it when pulled out; in a bedroom it should run under the bed and out 60–90 cm on each side and at the foot. Leave 30–45 cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls. Our rug size guide has diagrams for every room.

Sizes are approximate

Rug sizes are listed length by width in centimetres (some ranges list width first). Hand-made rugs can vary by a few centimetres from the stated size, and fringes are not included. Each product page lists every available size.

Every rug ships Australia-wide with free shipping on rug orders over $99 (remote postcodes excluded) and 30-day returns on unused rugs in original packaging. Not sure on size? Read our rug size guide or call Castle Hill on (02) 9894 8805 or Liverpool on (02) 9602 7228.
